Well Designed and Performed Animatronic Animals
USA Today reported recently that Budweiser's animatronic lizards finally supplanted their frogs as the most popular television commercial they have ever measured. Animal Makers created the frogs while the campaign was at DDB Needham. Ad Track goes on to rank the frogs/lizards campaign as the seventh most effective (at raising sales) behind the 1995 McDonald's campaign starring Michael Jordan. the lizards/frogs campaign is liked "alot" by 53% adult males and 47% adult females.
The Center on Alcohol Advertising concurs with USA Today, reporting that children were more familiar with the Bud Frogs than with Smokey the Bear, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and Kellogg's Frost Flakes animated Tony the Tiger. Only Bugs Bunny is more recognizable (just barely).
Lion Breweries of New Zealand recently commissioned a threesome of their own, but this time had Animal Makers create wildebeests. These ruddy critters tested good with adults but were fearsome to young children. The test was run by the NZ Liquor Board.
