Here is the mechanic, Dave Kindlon, standing in and getting "bugged" by the animatronic capuchin on his back (performed by Jim Boulden). Jim is controlling the body and arms and Doug Hudson is controlling the animatronic facial expressions and head movements.

This is an example of a classic radio controlled rod puppet. This puppet's product page is here. This is the same type of monkey featured in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series for Disney. Animal Makers supplied the capuchin monkey puppets for three of these films so far.
